Planner Perspectives
Community Planners work to create and implement pathways for improving and expanding cities, towns, and other areas. Their knowledge of land use, zoning ordinances, and critical infrastructure is more important than ever as communities grapple with challenges from affordable housing to climate change. In this edition of Planner Perspectives, we talk with Alyssa Kelly and John Trant from Strategic Solutions, LLC in Pittsburgh, PA, about their roles as experienced community planners and consultants -- and how their work is helping communities balance growth and resiliency with a changing world.

Meet General Code: LoriAnn Shura
In her nearly two decades with General Code, LoriAnn Shura has been a cornerstone of the company’s sales team, serving the codification needs of hundreds of communities across the Northeast, New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.
During her tenure, LoriAnn has represented the company in numerous capacities. Her early years focused primarily on creating proposals to assist the work of General Code’s Codification, Laserfiche® and Municity™ sales teams. In 2008, she pivoted to full-time sales and training for General Code’s eCode360® online code platform and served in this role for nearly 10 years, developing close, collaborative relationships with communities in New York State, Delaware and Maryland.
In 2022, a family move to North Carolina coincided perfectly with General Code’s merger with the International Code Council, a move that expanded General Code’s reach into the Mid-Atlantic region and gave LoriAnn the opportunity to lead code sales efforts in a promising new area. Today LoriAnn continues to work with customers and new communities up and down the east coast to bring their codes up to date and provide personal, focused client care.
LoriAnn takes great pride in her role and her ability to help communities do more with less, and always in a style that’s friendly and transparent. “I believe in building real relationships with customers and helping them in any way I can. And we don’t just talk about work, we talk about outside life, vacations, and family. I want them to know I care and that I listen,” says LoriAnn.
